POWERFUL INGREDIENTS of Fruit of the Spirit

Frankincense & Myrrh

Frankincense is a powerful anti-inflammatory made famous by the Wise men who visited Christ soon after his birth.  It was valued in ancient times for its ability to treat aches and pains of all kinds. Frankincense & Myrrh are both known to be the strongest natural anti-inflammatory herbs.

Ancient people used frankincense to carry their prayers to heaven, for rejuvenating facemasks, and for treating depression and claustrophobia. Now many U.S. hospitals incorporate aromatherapy — using incense in various forms — into programs to relieve pain and anxiety, dealing with recovery, facing terminal illness, or long-term treatments.

Myrrh, the sap of the Myrrh tree, was also used during biblical times.  Like Frankincense, Myrrh is a native of the African-Mediterranean region.  It is also known as Boswellia which is used commonly for inflammation treatment.

Myrrh is a tall spiny tree found in the Middle East, northeastern Africa, and India. In India, it has been used for 2,000 years for treating hardening of the arteries – a cause of heart disease.

Dead Sea Minerals

Minerals make up 95% of your body’s Vitamin and Mineral requirements and one of the most storied mineral compounds comes from the Dead Sea.

The Dead Sea Minerals in Fruit of the Spirit give the body Alkaline Minerals.  Experts express that our food is seriously lacking in minerals these days.  Minerals are vital for us to stay healthy and keep our bodies free from disease.  The body needs minerals to make bones, digest food, make hormones, repair tissue, and oxygenate cells.  A medical doctor that recently started carrying Fruit of the Spirit in his practice states “Trying to get my patients better without alkaline minerals is impossible. FOS is a good and convenient source of these vital minerals – a tasty and sensible solution.”

People of all ages have flocked to the Dead Sea to bask in its life-restoring waters.  Many have found that the consumption of small quantities of these minerals proves a healing, cleansing effect.

Additionally, the electrolyte profile of the water essence provides a delicate balance of sodium and potassium that promotes healthy energy production.

Aronia (Black Chokeberry)

  • The Aronia berry also known as the Black Chokeberry (Aronia melancarpa/Aronia melanocarpa) is a close cousin of the blueberry
  • known for its powerful antioxidant properties and benefits of those properties.
  • dark pigmented berry, extremely high in antioxidants. Higher than blueberries, higher than cranberries, higher, even, than pomegranates.
  • Although native to the Americas, it is far more popular in Eastern Europe where its juice has been known to help people with heart conditions.
  • It has high levels of proanthocyanins and quinic acid (ten times more than cranberries). Quinic acid prevents urinary infection.
  • It has a high ORAC Value, due to the high concentration of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, both of which contribute to its dark, almost black, color.

Probably the best source of this wonderful berry I have found, other than the actual Aronia berry itself is in a drink

Whole Purple Grape

Grapes provide healing properties that are both physical and spiritual.  Jesus used the juice of grapes as a sacrament to his memory, as well as in his miracles.

Grape nectar is rich in anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins (OPC).  The protective substances in grapes are so powerful that they can withstand complex fermenting processes.  OPCs from grape seed are the most studied and storied of all Anti-Oxidants.  They have been shown to protect us against cancer and heart disease.

OPCs are versatile in their ability to protect and heal the tissues of the body.  They protect against damages of oxidative stress, eliminate inflammation, a primary cause of minor aches and pains and the precursor to many major diseases.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a substance that is produced by several plants and that is sold as a nutritional supplement. A number of beneficial health effects, such as anti-cancer, antiviral, neuroprotective, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and life-prolonging effects have been reported. Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes.

Resveratrol is a high potency, all-natural supplement that provides high levels of one of the most powerful naturally occurring anti-oxidants. It is well-known as a principal part of the healthy Mediterranean diet.

RESVERATROL IN THE MEDIA

According to WebMD “Resveratrol may prolong life and fight age-related diseases.  Resveratrol is one of a group of antioxidant compounds called polyphenols found in red wine that has been reported to have anti-inflammatory as well as anticancer properties.  Resveratrol may counter type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, a new study shows.”

CNN says “At high doses, resveratrol appears to prolong life spans and improve health in mice. Human trials are under way.  This research, funded in part by the National Institute on Aging, was published in the journals Nature and Cell in November, and bottles of resveratrol have been flying off the shelves since. Dr. Brent Bauer, director of the Department of Internal Medicine’s Complimentary and Integrative Medicine Program at Mayo Clinic says “This may be the best thing since sliced bread for human beings, but we just don’t know yet.”

It has been shown to improve overall health & well being. It has been shown to have beneficial anti-cancer & anti-aging effects when added to your diet.

It has been shown in studies to lead to significant improvements in athletic performances and endurance of athletes.

Studies show it lowers the risk of heart disease and lowers cholesterol levels.

It also boosts the metabolism & helps to speed up attempted weight loss.

Resveratrol has been shown in helping to protect against Alzheimer’s disease.

While Resveratrol research is still in its infancy, the substance has shown major promise as an Extremely Aggressive Body Benefiting Compound.

Jujube

The jujube fruit has been described as the “fruit of life”.  The Ancient Chinese learned the unique properties over thousands of years. Today’s medical practictioners are now finding scientific proof of its exceptional properties.

The Jujube, Red Date, or Chinese Date is a small tree or shrub in the buckthorn family.

The immature fruit is smooth-green, and resembles the consistency and taste of an apple, but as it matures more, it darkens to red to purplish-black and becomes wrinkled, looking like a small date

Jujube contains:

  • the highest concentration of cyclic guanosine monophosphate and cylic AMP.
  • heavy concentrations of niacin, riboflavin, thiamine and two forms of vitamin A.
  • 100 times more vitamin C than apples and 20 times more than citrus fruits
  • minerals calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zink
  • an array of phenols and nine bioflavonoids, which support vascular function and cellular health
  • 18 of the 24 amino acids humans need to live
  • a wide variety of organic acids, the most notable being betulinic acid

Whole Fig

Figs are noticed for their sweetness and soft texture – they consist of a pliable skin enclosing a sweet, even softer, fleshly interior filled with edible seeds;  Figs have the shortest life span of any fruit in the market. Once they are harvested, they last about only a week. As a consequence, about 90 percent of the world’s fig harvest is dried.

The Fig tree is native to the Mediterranean region.   Jesus spoke of the Fig in his parables to the Jews.  It is widely used for food and medicine.

Nutritional Value

  • The mineral content of figs closely resembles that of human milk;
  • Figs are rich in both vitamins A, B1, B2 and calcium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, sodium potassium and chlorine;
  • Due to its high content in glucose, the most assimilative of all sugars the fig is nutritive;
  • Figs are high in vitamin B, that is essential in the intestine regulation, the fig has a similar function in our bodies as cereals do;
  • They contain mucin and pectin;
  • Black figs are high in potassium;
  • Dried figs, offer a surprisingly dense nutritional package;
  • Dried figs are rich in fibre, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron, and are useful as a more nourishing substitute for sugar in cooking;

Health Benefits

  • The fig is oxidant, laxative, diuretic, digestible and a blood cleanser
  • It is excellent for the liver
  • Great producers of energy

Hawthorn Berry

Hawthorn is most famous as the crown forced on Jesus’ head during his mock trail before his crucifixion.  Hawthorn was first used as a medicine to treat ailments of the heart and cardiovascular system.  It continues to be used for that today.

Used to promote the health of the circulatory system, treat angina, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia and has been found to strengthen the heart. Hawthorn is widely regarded in Europe as a safe and effective treatment for the early stages of heart disease and has been used for a number of ailments including angina, myocarditis, arteriosclerosis, nervous conditions like insomnia, and diarrhea. It has also been indicated for strengthening blood vessels, vascular insufficiency and blood clots, restoring the heart muscle wall, lowering cholesterol and to aid digestion.

Hawthorn is widely regarded in Europe as a safe and effective treatment for the early stages of heart disease and is endorsed by Commission E- the branch of the German government that studies and approves herbal treatments. It is used to promote the health of the circulatory system and has been found useful in treating angina, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia. It has been found to strengthen the heart and stabilize it against arrhythmias.

There is also evidence for cardiovascular system improvement, particularly in clinical parameters associated with angina, congestive heart failure and acute myocardial infarct. This may be due to the herb’s antioxidant activity. Its use in the treatment of hepatitis in modern Chinese medicine is supported by the demonstration of hepatoprotective activity in animal studies.

Whole Leaf Aloe

Aloe Vera is known as the “lily of the desert,” the “plant of immortality,” and the “medicine plant.” From the beginning of written history the Egyptians record that Aloe has been used to treat burns, infections, and gastrointestinal parasites.

Aloe Vera is very important due to its medicinal properties.  It not only makes you skin shine but it is also useful in curing diabetes, stomach pain, wrinkles, joint paints, and purifying blood.  Aloe Vera leaves are very important as they produce juice which is known to cure unwanted spots and skin marks.  The juice also acts as an anti-pigmentation agent, which helps to prevent pigmentation.

Aloe Vera, in liquid form, acts as an excellent regulator for the intestines and as a food supplement containing 12 essential nutrients.  Furthermore, it facilitates digestion, activates blood and lymphatic circulation, and alleviates arthritic and rheumatic pains.

Aloe research shows that it can prevent the growth of certain tumors, inhibit the inflammation of arthritis, increase collagen production in wounds, and aid in treating type-2 diabetes.

Whole Apple

We’ve all heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but did you know that apples contain substances that have protective and therapeutic values? Known as Nutriceuticals, these fruit benefits may be just what your body needs for optimum health.

Apples contain a number of antioxidants that reduce damage from free radicals. Free radicals are naturally formed by the body when a molecule in the body loses an electron. This can happen during metabolism, or when we are fighting off a virus or bacterial infection.

The delicious red apple also contains pectin, also known as soluble fiber, which has been found to help lower blood cholesterol levels. Pectin causes the cholesterol in foods to remain in the intestinal tract until it is eliminated from the body. It also binds carcinogens in the colon, which helps protect the body from certain types of cancer.

Studies suggest that eating and drinking apples and apple juice, in conjunction with a balanced diet, can protect the brain from the effects of oxidative stress.  Apples are also good for the treatment of acid reflux.

Bilberry

Sometimes called huckleberries or whortleberries, has been used as a medicinal herb since the Middle Ages.  Bilberry nectar commands the highest price among all the fruits and herbs in Fruit of the Spirit.

In Europe, Bilberry is a listed drug for improving night blindness.  European colonists to South American valued it enough to naturalize a variety of Bilberry in the high mountain valley of the Andes.

Bilberry has been used to treat vascular and blood disorders including amenorrhea.  It shows positive effects when treating age-related macular degeneration (AMD), varicose veins, thrombosis, and angina.

It contains blue-violet colored anthocyanins that have proven useful in treating capillary fragility, and to think the blood and dilate peripheral blood vessels.

Bilberry has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce blood clotting, and improve blood supply to the brain and nervous system.

One study showed that Bilberry’s power even inhibits the growth of human leukemia cells!

It fills Three Important Roles.

  1. It promotes blood Ph balance.  In this regard it is quite alkalinizing and is of help to those who consume excess quantities of acidic phosphates in the form of red meat and soft drinks
  2. It provides important nutrients.  It is a rich botanical source of iron, magnesium, potassium, and copper, as well as the aforementioned anthocyanins
  3. It promotes healthy blood sugar levels

The face that it promotes healthy blood sugar levels makes Bilberry puree an essential part of Fruit of the Spirit nutritionally supporting those who are afflicted with diabetes, metabolic syndrome X, chronic fatigue syndrome and obesity.

Studies confirm that oral Bilberry treatments improve visual accuracy in healthy people and can help those with eye diseases such as glaucoma, pigmentosa, retinitis, and myopia.  It works to improve night vision by improving the micro-circulation and regeneration of retinal purple.

Blueberry

A close cousin to the Bilberry, Blueberry has been used traditionally to treat diabetes, urinary tract infection, and indigestion.

The studies completed on blueberries so far point out their ability to maintain blood vessels, particularly those in the eyes.  It is also finding its own identity as an anti-aging nutrient.

Blueberries work to maintain healthy membranes in the body, lending rise to its use in prolonging the flexibility of tissues and promoting better eye-hand coordination.

One study of the consumption of blueberries showed anticancer activity against cervical and breast cancer.  Researchers also believe that Blueberry can protect against DNA damage and one’s predisposition to Alzheimer disease.

Among the benefits the blueberry provides are:

  1. They help to slow the aging process.
  2. They help reduce cell damage that may lead to some forms of cancer.
  3. They help prevent and even cure urinary tract infections.
  4. They help clean our blood vessels, our arteries and veins.
  5. They are proving to be beneficial to folks suffering with arthritis and fibroses myalgia.
  6. They benefit the nervous system and may help to prevent mood swings.
  7. They help you maintain good vision.
  8. They are good for your complexion.
  9. Help you stick to that “diet” and aid in weight control.

Lycium (AKA Gogi Berry)

One of the most well-known traditional properties of lycium fruit is its ability to improve vision. This has been documented for over fifteen centuries. Modern scientific studies have finally supplied some substantiation to this property. It turns out lycium fruit not only contains high amounts of b -carotene (~ 8 mg/100g) but this b -carotene is in a highly biologically active form which is readily utilized by the body.

Another well-known and long-documented traditional property of lycium fruit is its ability to “benefit complexion and maintain one’s beauty”; it is also considered to have anti-aging properties. To drug-oriented American scientists, this certainly sounds ridiculous. But various studies have shown lycium fruit to have numerous beneficial effects, including, antioxidant, immuno-potentiating, antimutagenic, hypoglycemic, hypolipemic, hypotensive, etc., all of which contribute to the slowing down of the aging process or help us live longer.

Pomegranate

What are pomegranates good for?

Researchers report that they are rich in antioxidants that can keep bad LDL cholesterol from oxidizing (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, May 2000). This degradation of LDL seems to be an initial step in the development of atherosclerosis. In addition, pomegranate juice, like aspirin, can help keep blood platelets from clumping together to form unwanted clots.

Does this make any difference clinically?

More recent research has found that eight ounces of pomegranate juice daily for three months improved the amount of oxygen getting to the heart muscle of patients with coronary heart disease (American Journal of the College of Cardiology, Sept. 2005). Other researchers report that long-term consumption of pomegranate juice may help combat erectile dysfunction (Journal of Urology, July 2005).

Investigators are also excited about the possibility that pomegranate compounds might prevent prostate cancer or slow its growth. In mice, treatment with pomegranate extract delayed the development of tumors and improved survival (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Sept. 26, 2005). Other research reports suggest that pomegranate juice might help reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Sea Buckthorn

Although sea buckthorn has other benefits, it is most frequently used for the treatment of diseases of skin and digestive tract. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbiological activity, relieves pain and promotes tissue regeneration.

1. Wound healing

The best know but also most studied property of sea buckthorn is the improvement of wound healing. Topical treatment of wounds with extracts or oil from sea buckthorn relieves pain and accelerates wound healing. Animal studies showed that sea buckthorn stimulates the healing of gastric ulcers.

2. Heart health

Flavonoids are linked to a lower risk of heart disease. Studies on humans show no or only a small effect of sea buckthorn on heart health parameters.

  8. Can this lower or normalize blood pressure?

  9. Because of it high antioxidant content, Fruit of the Spirit can help bring blood pressure into a normal range. Recent studies have suggested that red and purple grapes, like those in Fruit of the Spirit, may help lower and maintain healthy blood pressure levels. This appears to be due to antioxidants called flavonoids which have been shown to lower the risk of clogged arteries and help lower blood pressure.
