Inflammation & Fibromyalgia: Why Fruit of the Spirit May Help

Inflammation is the buzz word in risk factors. Today, we are culturally conditioned to follow our cholesterol numbers, our blood pressure readings, and our blood sugar (glucose) results. We define our health on the basis of our test results. However, our wellness/health/or well-being is better defined to be the sum total of the effects of our lifestyle choices on our own genetic map. We can turn on or turn off the expression of our genes by making wise lifestyle choices.
In a day and time of incredible medical technology, we face a pandemic of chronic disease. That seems impossible given that the US spends more on healthcare per person than any other country on the planet. Obesity, heart disease, arthritis, Type II diabetes, GERD or reflux disease are at an all-time high incidence. And, we face new challenges such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and environmental illness. Is there a common thread or a risk factor that connects the dots?
Inflammation is the common thread. Inflammation links obesity to heart disease to diabetes to arthritis and so on… And our modern lifestyle equals inflammation. A diet high in bad fat equals inflammation. A diet with too much refined sugar equals inflammation. A life of sedentation or inactivity equals inflammation. Stress equals inflammation. A diet that lacks optimal nutrients or optimal amounts of fruits and vegetables equals inflammation.
Fibromyalgia is hurting all over. Fibromyalgia is known to be the lack of energy on a cellular basis for our muscles to relax. Fibromyalgia is linked to inflammation. There are many triggers of fibromyalgia. Chronic viral infections, a low functioning thyroid, the inability to deal with toxins in our environment are but a few of the triggers of a diagnosis of fibromyalgia.
A diet rich in fruits and vegetables or one supplemented with Fruit of the Spirit can help ameliorate inflammation and improve chronic conditions including fibromyalgia.
